Blog 3: Response to"HYPE"

The increase of tv commercials, dislplay ads, and radio commercials have been increasing continuesly, but so is our population. Every month we have companies coming up with new ideas and new products that they introduce to the public. In this passage "Hype" by Kalle Lasn, she states that "advertisements are the most prevalent and toxic of the mental pollutants". I disagree with the authors point of view.
As technology is getting better day by day, companies are finding different ways of promoting their products. One reason I disagree with the authors point of view is because from my personal experience I have been to few business fairs, where I have seen companies come up with different type of new products, that they think would be useful to the public needs. Its surprising to see how comapines come up with many different ideas at the table, but not all of them get the approved to be sold. The ones that do get the approval by higher attoraty, they start off by putting big sales tag on the product so that everyone can afford to buy it.
Each year people wait for the biggest sales. And these sales will tell another reason why I disagree with the authors point of view. For example, every christmas we get huge discount on lather coats, jeans, sweaters, kids wear and etc. How will we the public get informed of these once a year sale if there was no way of knowing about it? This is why these advertisements are being played over and over again through tv and radio. For those of us, who are busy with college, study and work, the ads that scroll up on our bank machine are one of the ways of getting to know whats the best way to save money.
Now a days not everyone has enough time to sit and watch tv. Therefore companies post billboard ads to catch the public attention. Commericals are way of informing everyone about new deals in the town. It gives a way for the public to save money, and business comapines a way to make money.

Summary of Allegory of the Cave

This passage " The Allegory of the Cave" written by The Republic, is about human beings living underground in a den since childhood. The only thing they can see is just the shadows of figures and statues and name them by the shape of the shadows. Later when they got released out of the underground, they were ask the by the instructor to point the passing objects and name them. But the human being only remembers the shape of the figures not the way they look in real life.

Blog 1 "Hype"

In this passage titled "Hype" the author's most important idea is that " advertisements are the most prevalent and toxic of the mental pollutants." The author see's that anywhere our eyes can possibly come to rest is now a place that shows corporate America's view.
Tv commercials, Radio commercials, display commercials, and billboards are a way of advertising different type of products. It helps people save moeny, and know about the new products and big sales. Therefore I disagree with the author's point of view.
From what I have learned in High school and have also personally experienced is that our economy condition isnt that great now, so the sales that big companies advertise can help people. Every few months business companies come up with good sale deals, that they need to advertise in order to inform the public.
Commercials advertisements is a way of being aware of what is coming new in the market, and what sales companies are offering to the public. From my point of view commericials are not a mental pollutant instead its a informer.
