Revision of blog #7 "The woman who died in the waiting room"

I have heard stories of people dying in the hospital waiting area in other countries but not in the United States. This came as a surprise to everyone I believe. " The women who died in the waiting room" written by Jeneen Interlandi, talks about a 49 years old women, who passed away in a waiting room of a Brooklyn hospital. She fell out of her chair and was struggling between two chairs for 20 minutes, while nurses and security cameras failed to help her. After 40 minutes, a nurse went to check up on her, but by that time the helpless woman passed away. " Public hospitals across the country have struggled to provide acute psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured", I completely agree with the author's statement.

Sometimes it makes me wonder why people especially highly educated people fail to understand the meaning of the word " Emergency". One reason why I agree with the author's statement is because last summer I had to make a trip to the emergency room in my neighborhood. My younger cousin fell off from his bike and got a pretty deep cut on his forehead. I somehow managed to stop the bleeding, but we all know how kids react when they get injured. I rushed him to the emergency room and was waiting there for good 3 hours to be seen. Finally, one nurse came and give him stitches. I am aware of the fact that our economical condition isn't that stable now, but we cannot compromise with people's health.

Many people cannot afford medical insurance, therefore they cant make regular visits to the doctors.
Even though their illnesses can be cured with just regular medication, they happen to make more visits to the
emergency.Another reason why I agree with the author's statement is because my tenant was really sick passed winter. After going to apply for medical insurance many times he gave up. He was too sick so his wife took him to the hospital. The hospital bill was really high that they told my parents, they wont be able to pay the rent on time for that month. His wife mentioned to me that after spending so much money for the medication, along with the hospital bill, she really didn't think the service was worth it. She seen nurses mostly taking their time and doing their own things at a very slow pace.

These are two examples of some incidents I have been though and heard of. As we all can see and tell that hospitals in the United States need more work to be done. They need to hire more people to be able to give better service.

Blog 6: Personal Directions for The CATW

On the day of the test, the first thing I will do is eat a full and healthy breakfast, after all no work can be done with an empty stomach.  I will arrive to school before time, so I dont run late. As soon as I receive the passage, I will read it once to know what the passage is about, and than read it again to underline the main ideas and important details that the author stated. After that I will choose one significant idea stated in the passage and make a outline using examples to support the significant idea I choose. On my intro paragraph I will start with a introductory sentences or two, summarize the original passage, and add thesis. As I was taught in class that always quote the significant idea and mention to agree or disagree with the idea on the intro paragraph. Than I will write two body paragraphs each with a reason and example relevant to the significant idea I choose. My last paragraph will be my conclusion, in which I will write few sentences raping up the whole essay.

Some things I will have to look out for when writing my essay are vocabulary, spelling errors, and how to put my words on paper. I know the type of vocabulary words that I want to use but sometimes I forget their spellings. And the reasons and examples that support my significant idea for the body paragraphs come to my mind but I have hard time putting them on paper. Its like I know what I am saying but dont know how to put them in writing.

I figured out how to help myself with these problems. For the vocabulary and spelling errors, I will bring a dictonary on the day of the test. And about putting my words on paper, I will make a outline before writing the actual essay. That way I will be able to know what excatly to mention and in which tone, so the reader follows my point of view and understands it.

Blog # 5

From the movie "Gone baby Gone" most of the characters for example Remy, Lionel and Angie believe in the philosophy of consequentialism.  According to them they think the best way to serve the best to Amanda is to keep Amanda away from her uncaring mother Helene. They believe that Amanda will have a better future if she stays with Remy. He can give her a safe environment to live in, good education, provide her with all the things she will need and above all give her the love and affection that she deserves. Towards the end of the movie it showed how Amanda looked very happy and was being taken under good care by Remy and his wife, which actually proved that Amanda can and most likely will be raised with love and attention.
Patrick on the other hand believes in ethical absolutism. He believes the best for Amanda would be staying with her mother Helene. He believes that no one has the right to take a child away from their mother, even though he sees the uncaring nature of Helene. During the conversation that Remy and Patrick were having at the end of the movie, Pratrick stated that he doesnt want to face Amanda when she will grow up and ask him why did he leave her with some strangers? Why didnt he take her back to her mother, to her real family? He mentioned that living under the guilt of leaving her behind will never let him forgive himself.
From my point of view I think that the movie took the side of consequentialism. At the end of the movie it showed that Amanada wasnt being looked after. The tragedy of loosing Amanda once didnt bring any changes to Helene's behavior. Amanda was just sitting by her self and watching tv, now that neither Lionel or his wife were there to look after her.
